Spyker C8 Preliator – The Spyker C8 Preliator may as well be called the Phoenix or the Zombie or something because this car represents Spyker’s return from the dead. After Victor Muller’s ill-fated dalliance with SAAB, the company went away, much to the chagrin of automotive nerds everywhere. Now, they’re back and this time they’re bringing manual transmissions and Audi power to the party. The unbelievable quality of materials and engineering that everyone has come to know and love is back too, thankfully. The shifter mechanism for the manual transmission is so perfect that it should be in a museum. Spyker plans to offer manuals with their cars going forward because they realize that not everyone is interested solely in going fast around a track, they want to be engaged in the driving experience too.

Apollo Arrow – The company formerly known as Gumpert is back and they’ve changed the name of the company to the name of the car they produced, Apollo. The former Audi engineer is flexing his head once more, this time with the Arrow. The Arrow looks kind of like a McLaren P1 that has had a bunch of weirdness surgically removed. We love it. We also love the lack of any hybrid drivetrain silliness. This baby is all engine and its lightweight too. The 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 is supposedly good for 1000PS which works out to roughly 987 horsepower in American money. If the Apollo was any indication of what these guys can do when they put their minds to things, the Arrow will undoubtedly be pants-shittingly fast and very, very expensive.

Pagani Huayara – Horacio Pagani, the mad Argentine, has almost singlehandedly redefined people’s idea of what a hypercar should be. Far from being just fast, it’s also extremely well-built and the materials he uses are second-to-none in terms of quality. His font choice in the interior leaves A LOT to be desired but the bespoke turbocharged V12 from AMG and the silly active aero flaps go a long way towards making that ignorable. This is also the first Pagani that’s legally importable to the US and that means that we’ve seen one in person! In fact, a certain custom wheel maker of which we are a subsidiary MIGHT have had one in their shop.

Koenigsegg One:1 – Christian Von Koenigsegg is an evil genius. Not evil in that he wants to destroy the world or anything (though we wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he has some kind of Scandinavian volcano lair), but evil in the sense that he makes so few cars that cost so much money that it’s driving us mildly insane. The One:1 is the kind of car that comes along once in a generation. CvK decided he wanted a car that made one megawatt of power because it didn’t exist and so he built one. He built it with hand-laid carbon fiber wheels and custom 3D printed titanium turbo compressor housings and all kinds of other absurdly exotic materials and techniques. Then he sold them. To people. I know, it doesn’t seem like it should be legal, but it is.

Drakan Spyder – We covered this in its own story but frankly, the Drakan was so cool that it deserves to be mentioned among these other totally bananas automobiles. This car is the only car on our list to be designed and built in ‘Merica and powered by that most ‘Merican of engines, an LS-series V8 from DETROIT. All kidding aside, this thing costs about 100 grand, which isn’t cheap unless you compare it to the other cars we’ve been talking about. It has a power to weight ratio that would make Colin Chapman poop his adult diapers, and it sounds like Satan doing a Tom Waits impersonation. It also has a manual transmission and costs essentially nothing to run. It’s perfect and we want one still, so hard.
